How is a sheriff a community leader? What does a sheriff do to enhance the community?
You might consider beginning your response with, "That's a great question" or something similar to set the tone of your response. The essential aspect of the question is your body of learned experience which encompasses the qualities and abilities needed to perform the duties of sheriff or deputy sheriff, which much of the time means interacting with the surrounding community. The interviewer is asking you to convince them that you know how to do the job. How you acquired the knowledge is not as important to them as the knowledge itself and how you use it. Your response should be confident and broadly laid out with a discussion of the leadership qualities that a sheriff needs as well as your own accomplishments in that area and perhaps where they see yourself going next in terms of career direction both now and in the future.
